Diary of a Working Mom: Finding a Healthier Me

I am going to be brutally honest, I am completely overweight and out of shape! I have been since I had my son. I was the girl at the gym 5-6 days a week on and off throughout my 20s and 30s and now I am the mom on the couch after a long day at work and doing “mom stuff”. It’s not an excuse, it’s a fact. I made the decision to put my kid, my family and my career first and the price was the expansion of my ass and stomach.

I like to pretend I’m OK with it, but I hate looking at myself in the mirror if it goes “Tits down”. I have Rubbermaid bins full of clothes that I swear I am going to fit back into if it kills me because I refuse to buy any more clothes at the size I am at. I used to love when my husband hugged me from behind and now I run away from it scared he will touch my flabby stomach or one day his arms just won’t fit around me anymore. Continue reading

Be Your Own Valentine

Valentine’s day has gotten me in trouble in the past because my words were misconstrued by someone and it caused some issues at home. You see,  I sometimes refer to Valentine’s day as “Bound to be Utterly Disappointed Day” not because I get disappointed but because I know so many men and women who end the day in tears or mad because the day didn’t live up to the expectations they had in their minds. Sometimes it’s because they don’t have someone in their life to celebrate with or worse they stick with someone or start a relationship with someone just to not be alone for that day.  Most people end the day disappointed  when they don’t really need to be because they thought their partner was a mind reader and didn’t communicate their expectations, which is why my husband and I have not really celebrated Valentine’s Day as a couple for many years.
We talked about it, he told me how he felt about the day being too commercial and just another day were men and woman are forced to rush out and purchase gifts, buy/make elaborate dinners or do grand gestures to prove how great their love is when he feels it’s the everyday stuff that does that.

Discrimination with the stroke of a pen

It’s been a weekend of anger and protest, due to President Trump carelessly using the might of his pen to discriminate against Muslims. I don’t want to believe it either, because I wanted a world for my son where we moved so far away from hating or fearing people because they were different from us. But that is what this was; as his own ally stated on Fox News, this was President Trumps way of placing a Muslim Ban but doing so while hiding it behind a legal danger threat to the United States. And most of us saw that, some of you are still not as sure and I think that is what hurts the most. Everyone is so caught up in the division of Left and Right, and buying into the thought that all mainstream media is corrupt or bias. We are too busy ignoring the facts, yelling at each other over the internet and playing into fear on both sides that the end result of war, be it Civil War or World War is starting to feel inevitable. And that is terrifying, heartbreaking and angering. Continue reading
